Nurse pleads guilty to making false HIV claim to land R1million insurance payout By Mervyn Naidoo Share Durban - A registered nurse attempted to score on the R1 million dreaded disease cover her insurance company provided, by falsely claiming she acquired HIV while on duty. But Shevon Naidoo, who works for a laboratory that services insurance companies, was unable to substantiate the July 2019 claim she made with the Old Mutual Group. Even though she submitted tests results of another HIV-infected person as her own, her plan backfired and she was charged with fraud. She admitted her wrongdoing and made a Section 112 guilty plea when she appeared in the Durban Regional Court on Wednesday.

Straight from making their perceived getaway from law enforcement authorities, the pair booked into a Durban guest house where they were eventually arrested. The owner of the Glenmore Guest House in Umbilo and the manager were convicted and sentenced this week for accommodating the foreigners despite the lockdown. Not only did manager Ahmed Othoman Elrabiey, 48, and Nazar Salman, 47, the owner, “intentionally” disregard Disaster Management Act regulations, it was found that the business was not licensed.

Siyabonga Mbobo: Four accused found guilty of politically-motivated murder Four suspects accused of killing 50-year-old Siyabonga Mbobo in 2016 were given life sentences this week. In the strides to curb political infighting amongst communities, four suspects were convicted by the Durban Regional Court on Wednesday, 17 February 2021 following a lengthy trial. The four accused were on trial for the murder of an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member, the 50-year-old Siyabonga Mbobo who was shot and killed in 2016 when a fight broke out at a local community. Life imprisonment The convicted murderers, Zwelandile Gutyana (28), Aphelele Mcobothi (23), Siyabonga Ntsethe (33) and Mthethiswa Ntsazana (44) were arrested on 16 September 2016 following a Hawks’ Serious Organized Crime Investigation.
