Two people released on bail after arrest for theft of R1 4m NSFAS funds meant for KZN college

Getty Images Two of the three people charged with fraud of R1.4 million in National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funds have been released on bail. The money was meant for students at a Durban college. Nosipho Sokhela, 30, and Thabisile Mdabe, 40, were granted R2 000 bail each when they appeared in the Durban Magistrate s Court on Tuesday morning. Sandile Sokhela, 39, the main accused in the matter, was granted R5 000 bail but was remanded in police custody after he could not make bail. The money was for NSFAS-funded students at one of the colleges in Durban, police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said.
