Community asked to unite in candlelight s glow

A Morgan County pastor who wants a gift of community unity as 2020 comes to an end is asking residents to light a candle, step outside and sing the Christmas carol “Silent Night” at 6 p.m. today.
“It’s just to bring a little peace and comfort,” said Robb Roper, pastor at Durbin United Methodist Church in Franklin.
The idea for the Community Christmas Eve Candle Lighting, sponsored by the Jacksonville Area Conference of Churches, resonated with Roper.
“I have just been thinking about this year and wanted to show solidarity,” Roper said, adding that people can participate from the safety of their homes or as part of small, community gatherings while still practicing social distancing.
