DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) There are many happy graduation moments at this time of year, and those who turned their tassels at the Durham Rescue Mission really have a reason to celebrate. The ceremony Tuesday morning affirmed their triumph over personal struggles and homelessness.
Iris Bumpass, a graduate of the mission’s Victory Program said, “It’s amazing that I’ve made it this far. I mean, at one point I was thinking I’m just going to give up. But you know, God just put in me to keep pushing, keep pressing, keep moving on. You can do this.”

OXFORD â The Granville County Republican Party held its annual convention and has elected a new slate of party officers. Chad McHenry was unanimously elected as the 2021-22 chairman of the local GOP.
At their largest convention to date, the Republican delegates also elected Mike Magnanti as vice chairman, Tony Gooch as treasurer, Ridge Parker as secretary, and Sheila May as finance chairwoman.
âEach one of our new Republican officers brings with them years of campaign, fundraising and media experience that is needed to advance our conservative message and increase the Republican footprint here in Granville County,â McHenry said.
Although new to their local positions, McHenry, Magnanti and Parker are all veteran campaigners.
Durham Rescue Mission
The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing the
Durham Rescue Mission to make some major changes on how it helps the city s homeless population. In January, the Durham Rescue Mission launched a campaign to raise $3.8 million to build a new campus to house up to 66 homeless men.
Easter is also a special time at the Durham Rescue Mission, and that weekend the Mission aims to serve hundreds of meals to all who come to its doors. It also provides children in the community with an Easter basket. However, the Durham Rescue Mission is counting on donations to make that happen.
