Health Dept gives 7,287 vaccines, more clinics to be announced

The Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) in partnership with Cayuga Health System is providing an update on COVID-19 vaccine administration in Tompkins County. TCHD expects to receive vaccine weekly from the state, but this is subject to change. As of Friday, all available first vaccine doses in Tompkins County have been administered. TCHD will not schedule appointments or clinics until the arrival of the next batch of vaccine, which is not anticipated before Jan. 19. TCHD will notify the public when the next clinics are scheduled. New York State is distributing the COVID-19 vaccine through phased eligibility based on population, need and risk. The State dictates the eligible populations in each phase for distribution and authorizes vaccination sites, including the local Cayuga Health System site. Mass vaccination site in Ithaca can administer up to 2,000 vaccines a day

ITHACA, NY Cayuga Health officials announced today that they have been working closely with the Tompkins County Health Department to open a COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic in Ithaca. The 40,000 sq. ft. mass vaccination clinic is located in the former Sears department store at The Shops at Ithaca Mall. It has been opened for Phase 1 vaccination dispensing and in preparation for the progression of the vaccination distribution. So far, Cayuga Health has administered 5,132 vaccines, at approximately 650-800 per/day, as part of Phase 1A and now 1B. With enough vaccines, the site is capable of administering 2,000 doses daily.   “Our mission is to dispense 100% of the allocated vaccine as it is received, and we have done this continuously since accepting our first shipment,”  Dr. Martin Stallone, president and CEO of Cayuga Health, said. “It is our understanding that the more efficient that we are, the greater the allocation can become in the future.
