Today is the last day our polls will be open to vote for Michigan’s Best Vacation Spot. You have until midnight to let us know where you are most looking forward to visiting this summer around the Mitten.
Clearly, we love going to the northern parts of our state. The Northern Lower Peninsula, and the Upper Peninsula have been getting lots and lots of love, and with good reason. They are absolutely beautiful, and have so much to offer visitors, from incredible scenery, to amazing things to do. Our poll for the Western Upper Peninsula has gotten the most votes out of any of our regional polls, surpassing all the others by hundreds and hundreds of votes. It look
It s Arbor Day, Michiganders.
Arbor Day, a day dedicated to public tree-planting and celebrated every last Friday in April, was first featured in the 15th animated TV special It s Arbor Day, Charlie Brown in 1976 based on the Peanuts comic strips created by the late Charles M. Schulz, also known as Sparky. The Peanuts Arbor Day special, that was done decades ago, and it just seemed kind of like a natural fit to work with the Arbor Day Foundation, said Melissa Menta, senior vice president of marketing and communications for Peanuts Worldwide. Sparky sort of created social media way back before social media existed. If you look at the comic strip, it s a four-panel, bite-sized message. The Arbor Day messages of planting trees were actually in the strip long before our partnership with Arbor Day (Foundation).

Well, Michiganders, we know where you’re headed this summer: “Up North.”
We asked you this week to nominate Michigan’s Best Vacation Spot, and you responded with an overwhelming number of destinations for Northern Michigan.
The Northern Lower Peninsula led the way with 62 nominations.
The Upper Peninsula was next with 37.
With a total of 132 nominations, that’s 75 percent of your nominations for places “Up North.”
