Madaripur Correspondent, bdnews24.com Published: 17 May 2021 12:58 PM BdST Updated: 17 May 2021 12:58 PM BdST Police have arrested Shah Alam, a key suspect in a case over the collision between a speedboat and a sand carrier on the Padma River in Madaripur that killed 26 people. ); } Alam, the boatman, was receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He was discharged from the hospital on Sunday, said Inspector Abdur Razzak of Khathalbari Jetty Police Outpost. Following his discharge from the hospital, the river police arrested Alam and sent him to Shibchar Police Station. He will be presented to the court on Monday. A passenger speedboat rammed into the bulkhead of a sand carrier near the Kathalbari pier on May 3. The bodies of 26 people were recovered afterwards. The bodies have since been turned over to the families of the dead.

Woman dead, son injured after being hit by car in Dhaka s Gulshan Star Digital Report Star Digital Report A woman died and her six-year-old son sustained critical injuries as a car hit them while they were crossing the road in Dhaka s Gulshan area early today. The deceased was identified as Shahinur Akter, 36, mother of two. Her elder son Shanto is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The accident occurred when the woman along with her husband and two sons was crossing the road around 12:30am. Shahinur was holding the hand of Shanto when they were hit by a car. Her husband Abdus Sattar was carrying their three-year-old son Sakib. The father and the three-year-old were unhurt as they were a little ahead, police and family members said.

Schoolboy dies after human hauler plunges into canal in Narayanganj Star Digital Report Star Digital Report A schoolboy was killed and eight of his friends were injured as a human hauler carrying them plunged into a canal in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj today. The deceased was identified as Nayeem Hossain (16), a class VII student of local Duptara Central Correction High School and son of Idris Ali of Bajbi village in the upazila, reports our Narayanganj correspondent. Shamim Al Mamun, sub-inspector of Araihazar Police Station, said the accident occured this noon when the nine boys, including Nayeem, on a human hauler (Nosimon) were going to Bishnandi ferry ghat to swim in a river.
