COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s rowing team advanced two boats to the grand finals and one to the petite finals following racing Saturday at the 2021 NCAA Championships. The event is being held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
The Ohio State 2V8 and 1V4 will compete for a chance at a national title Sunday while the 1V8 will race for a chance to finish in 7-12th place.
Entering the championships, Ohio State’s First Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight boats were seeded No. 6. The First Varsity Eight was seeded No. 7.
SATURDAY RACES
The Buckeye 1V8 semifinal race was scheduled for 8:36 a.m. Saturday but an equipment issue with one of the teams changed the order of the races. The Buckeyes were moved to the second semifinal race vs. Alabama, Rutgers, Michigan, Texas and Syracuse. The Top 3 finishers advanced to the grand finals Sunday (positions 1-6). The remaining teams advanced to the petite finals (7-12).

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sade Olatoye was today named the recipient of the Varsity O Alumni Society Scholarship, a $4,000 award for post-graduate education at Ohio State University.
Olatoye graduated in May 2020 with a degree in health sciences. She has since enrolled in graduate school at Ohio State and is pursuing a master’s in bioethics at the Ohio State College of Medicine. Her ultimate goal is to pursue medical school. She now has earned four post-graduate scholarships:
In February 2020, she won the Big Ten’s Wayne Duke Postgraduate Scholarship;
Also that winter she was named a recipient of the NCAA Winter Sports Postgraduate Scholarship;

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s rowing team opened its 21st appearance at the NCAA Championships Friday with all three Buckeye boats advancing to the AB semifinals Saturday. The event is being held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
Ohio State’s First Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight boats are seeded No. 6. The First Varsity Eight is seeded No. 7.
The Buckeyes finished in the No. 2 spot in the opening 1V8 race while both the 2V8 and 1V4 won their respective heats Friday. All three boats advanced to the AB semifinals Saturday.
Ohio State took the early lead in the 1V8 race battling Washington through the first 5oo meters. The Huskies took the lead by two seats at 1,000 meters and then built a sizeable advantage before defeating the Buckeyes by just under seven seconds.

Ohio State baseball student-athlete Scottie Seymour has been named one of five male finalists for the Big Ten Medal of Honor. The award is given each year to the top female and male senior student-athlete on each Big Ten campus.
Seymour, a Maumee, Ohio, native has appeared in 38 games as a Buckeye and has played all over the field. As a utility player, he has seen action at first-base, second-base, third-base, catcher, outfield and designated hitter. This season, he has played in 11 games with six starts. He had a triple in his first start this season at Michigan and then followed it with a career-high three-hit game which included a double and triple two days later.
