Largest cruise ship to visit Alaska docks in Ketchikan for first time
Posted by Molly Lubbers | Aug 2, 2021
Ovation of the Seas docked in Berths 1 and 2 on August 2. It was the first time the massive ship has ever visited Ketchikan. (Molly Lubbers/KRBD).
For the first time ever, the largest cruise ship to visit Alaska has made its way to Ketchikan. As KRBD’s Molly Lubbers reports, the city had to put in a lot of work to host a ship of this size.
1,138 feet long and 136 feet wide, the Ovation of the Seas ship loomed over downtown Ketchikan when it docked at Berths 1 and 2. As the only cruise ship in town, there was plenty of space to accommodate its nearly 1,200-foot long profile.

Although my Saturdays have their own rhythm and routine from which I rarely deviate, I still look forward to them just the same as a special day of the week.
Part of that’s because I’m off on Saturday as a rule and that means I can have some leisurely morning time before I head down to the barn to “feed the kids” and later compare notes with Better Half about our his-and-her independent and collective weekend expectations.
It’s also a day where I can sleep in a bit, but I quickly discover if I don’t get up reasonably early, I’m pretty disappointed in myself.

Voters only made minor changes to Rindge’s warrant during the town’s deliberative session on Saturday morning, including sending the budget and a proposal for a ninth police officer onto the ballot.
The majority of the 11 articles discussed during Saturday’s deliberative session were forwarded to the warrant with little discussion among the small crowd that attended in person, which consisted of less than 30 people.
Townspeople offered no amendments or objections to the $4.5 million proposed budget.
About $183,000 of the increase in this year’s budget is attributed to the addition of a bond for fiber internet approved last year. However, the bond is being paid back through a user fee for those who sign up, not taxpayer dollars. Discounting the bond, the budget is up about 3.4% compared to the previous year, or $142,000.
