The Morrison government is ‘keeping its options open’ for early election02/05/2021|4min
Sky News host Chris Smith says there are a few key indicators which show the prime minister has not given up on the idea of an early election.
Mr Smith pointed to Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein’s election victory on Saturday night which follows the trend of the WA, Queensland, and NT elections where the incumbent won in all cases.
“That won t be lost on Scott Morrison - incumbents have the edge, in times of crisis,” Mr Smith said.
He also said leaks from the budget which included “support for cheaper craft beer and spirits” as well as the government’s planned $1.7 billion boost to childcare, were both policies designed to “appease the electorate”.
