Meet Marlborough Apprentice #11, Seta Baker from NMIT!
Seta started the two-year New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering, Level 4 programme, offered by NMIT exclusively in New Zealand. While Seta won’t be officially starting his workplace training until next year, he will be getting hands-on learning at the RNZAF Woodbourne base in preparation. Seta studies hard and commutes to Nelson weekly for his rugby training with the Tasman Mako’s. This year the Tasman Rugby Union recognised the promise they see in Seta and have awarded him a scholarship to support his study.

In 2020 FC Nelson put forward a proposal to the council to set up a football hub with an artificial turf located at Guppy Park.
Plans for a new artificial turf facility in Nelson are on the backburner, following a review into the state of Nelson’s sports grounds that advised against a new facility. For years football clubs in Nelson have been posing the idea of an artificial turf, which they say would provide a much-needed all-weather venue for weekday training and weekend competition. In 2020 the Tasman Rugby Union also expressed an interest in the concept, given their own playing surface shortages – particularly with a lack of a top-quality training surface for the Tasman Mako.

The Tasman Mako celebrate their maiden premiership victory over Wellington Lions in 2019 at Trafalgar Park in Nelson. He said the organisation was excited about what Bray would bring to Tasman rugby and its stakeholders at all levels of rugby in the region. Lyndon will be a really passionate rugby identity as well as all the other things he ll bring with him - he just lives for that rugby stuff - he s more excited than we are. He really wanted this role and that really came through from day dot when we first took his application. The Tasman Mako are the defending provincial rugby champions, winning the premiership in 2019 and 2020.
