West Indies players back in Caribbean after IPL suspension

THE WEST Indies players who were involved in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) are back in the Caribbean, with the exception of veteran batsman Chris Gayle.
According to Johnny Grave, CEO of Cricket West Indies, in a Whatsapp message to Newsday, All of our IPL players are now safely back in the Caribbean (apart from Chris Gayle who has decided to travel back at a later date).
On Wednesday, it was announced that the IPL’s Governing Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had decided to postpone the IPL because of the surge in covid19 cases.

West Indies pair Pooran, Holder sad IPL suspended

THE West Indies pair of Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder has described the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 tournament as sad, but agree it was necessary and urged India to continue battling the covid19 pandemic.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the IPL’s Governing Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had decided to postpone the IPL because of the surge in covid19 cases.
Since April 21, India has reported over 300,000 new cases a day of the virus.
The tournament bowled off on April 9 and was scheduled to end on May 30.
Ann Browne-John: Contracted West Indies Women players will step up their game

CRICKET West Indies (CWI) lead selector for women’s and girls cricket Ann Browne-John believes the additional players given retainer contracts will propel their game to a higher level.
A total of 18 West Indies Women were awarded retainer contracts for the 2021/2022 season.
A CWI media release on Thursday said the players contracted is an increase of three compared to the 2020/2021 season, with contracts offered for the first time to developing young players – Kaysia Schultz and Qiana Joseph. Shawnisha Hector, who was previously contracted, has been given another contract for the forthcoming year.
