Trinidad gets ‘Safe Travels’ stamp from WTTC, while 13 tourism businesses get CARPHA nod
Destination Trinidad has received the green light to receive tourists, as the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) granted the island its ‘Safe Travels’ stamp which is meant to indicate that the island is adhering to ‘the highest standards of health and safety’ and ‘global health protocols’.
Trinidad joins its sister isle, Tobago, with which earned the Safe Travels stamp from the WTTC in March 2021. At present, Trinidad and Tobago can receive only fully vaccinated non-nationals within its borders.
Methanex to shutter Titan in Pt Lisas: 60 workers to go
Methanex Trinidad Limited, Point Lisas Industrial Estate, Point Lisas - JEFF K MAYERS
Methanex on Thursday announced that the Titan methanol plant in Point Lisas will remain idled indefinitely.
The plant was initially idled last March, with the company then citing covid19 and weakened international demand for that decision.
In a statement on its website, the company said as a result, it has made a decision to restructure its Trinidad operations to support a one-plant operation. It will reduce its Trinidad workforce by approximately 60 positions filled by employees and long-term contractors.
