Walt Disney CEO Bob Chapek was on hand to mark the occasion, participating in the park’s daily ceremony to raise the American flag. Former Disney CEO, and current executive chairperson, Bob Iger was also on-site, reportedly snapping photos of guests arriving at Disneyland. Both parks are still dealing with restrictions capacity is significantly limited to comply with California state requirements and allow for physical distancing and only California residents are allowed in for the moment (guests have to bring proof of residence in order to get in) but the news marks another step towards the restoration of normalcy for the U.S. travel and tourism industries.

Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Bob Chapek made the announcement Wednesday, telling CNBC: “We’ve seen the enthusiasm, the craving for people to return to our parks around the world.” The resort also plans to reopen its hotels in phases, with Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa set to reopen on April 29, Disney Vacation Club Villas at the Grand Californian on May 2, and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel and the Disneyland Hotel at a later date, the park announced on its website.
