Two California state lawmakers have proposed a bill that would allow major theme parks in Southern California to reopen faster than they would according to the rules in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy.
Assembly members Sharon Quirk-Silva, D-Buena Park, and Suzette Valladares, R-Santa Clarita, seek to co-sponsor AB 420, which would place all major theme parks in tier 3 (orange), or moderate, of the state’s COVID-19 Industry Guidance for Amusement Parks and Theme Parks. Gov. Newsom previously placed the major theme parks in tier 4 (yellow), or minimal. Theme park officials collectively called that move unworkable.

Disney continued the search and also insisted that the name of the theme park be changed from Disney World to Walt Disney World to act as a remembrance of his brother.

If Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise has gained a LGBTQ+ fan base in the past decade it has more to do with the ride’s guides than any actual thrills. In fact the ride has offered a respite from the heart-pounding and bone-shaking aspects of rides with sharp drops and sudden turns. That doesn’t mean, that as the boat moseys through the African jungle that riders aren’t reminded of this ride’s (and, as a whole, Disney s) racist past. The Jungle Cruise, which first opened in 1955, has long been criticized as racially insensitive (at best).

WHAT S REOPENING THIS YEAR
This past week brought plenty of re-opening date announcements for parks across the country, including some we haven t yet discussed.
Legoland New York, which delayed its 2020 grand opening, will indeed welcome guests on its much-awaited LEGO Factory Adventure Ride when it opens for the first time later this year. The exact date is not yet specified, but a press preview is on the books for later this month and will allow for first looks at test-runs of rides as well as the park s Brick Street and Bricktopia lands.
