Bolton lawyer fined for turning blind eye to dodgy road claims

RECKLESS: Asghar Ali, of AA Solicitors A LAWYER who turned a ‘blind eye’ to around 60 suspicious road traffic claims has been fined £35,000 by a legal watchdog. The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) also ordered Asghar Ali, of St Helens Road based AA Solicitors, to pay £31,560 in costs over the case. A fitness to practise hearing was told a doctor asked to provide medical statements for Ali’s firm had been a whistleblower. He claimed some of the lawyer’s clients had been seen by him previously, using different identities in relation to different accidents, after analysing 27 files relating to AA. An inquiry was then begun by Dean Spencer, a forensic investigator with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), examining a further 34 cases, the hearing was told.
