Efforts to make the Tees Valley a City of Culture in 2025 officially dropped

EFFORTS to make the Tees Valley a “City of Culture” in 2025 have been dropped.  Bids opened for cities and regions to vie to win the label last week after Coventry’s tenure began earlier this month.   But Hartlepool Council leader Shane Moore has confirmed the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) will not be pursuing the status for the region.  A push to make the region a “City of Culture” was first mooted in 2015, when former Teesside University vice-chancellor, Professor Graham Henderson, announced Tees Valley Unlimited and its partners should declare an intent to bid for 2025.

The terminal building was last week unveiled to the public for the first time after a multi-million pound refurbishment. As part of the refit, a brand new pub and bar was opened with the publicly chosen name - The Goosepoole. But holidaymakers and jetsetters alike can now choose from a brand new menu, which has now been revealed - complete with prices. Breakfast options include a full English at £13.49, full vegetarian at £12.49, small english at £9.99 - and lighter bites starting at £3.99 for a croissant or pain au chocolat.

Ben Houchen denies he is holding to ransom Teesside s biggest port owner in access row

The South Tees Development Corporation (STDC) has gone to the high court to seek a declaration over legal access routes to PD Port’s land. PD Ports, which owns Teesport, is on land surrounded by the Teesworks site, which is owned by STDC. The corporation is seeking a declaration that PD Ports only has one legal access route. PD Ports disputes that, claiming it has other access routes to the site.
