First Civil Rights Trail marker unveiled at Dooky Chase s Restaurant Share Updated: 3:14 PM CDT May 3, 2021 WDSU Digital Team Share Updated: 3:14 PM CDT May 3, 2021 WDSU Digital Team The first marker in the new Louisiana Civil Rights Trail was unveiled Monday at Dooky Chase s Restaurant, according to the Louisiana Office of Tourism.The marker was placed in one of the nation s oldest African-American neighborhoods.The office of tourism says life-sized markers will soon be seen in locations across the state and will illuminate the significant role Louisiana played in shaping American history during the 1950s and 60s and draws attention to the courage and commitment of the trailblazers of the movement. The presentation was held at 1 p.m. at the restaurant.
