Lubbock, United suspend giving J&J vaccine after FDA issues pause

The city of Lubbock and United Supermarkets announced changes to their vaccination clinics this week as federal officials recommended a temporary stop to administering the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. The Lubbock Health Department was planning to give away 5,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center this week. United Supermarkets was going to offer the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at their pop-up clinic at the United Supermarkets Arena on Thursday, where 1,200 doses were given away last week during a similar event. The  U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday they are recommending a pause in the use of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine out of an abundance of caution while an investigation is conducted into reports of apparently rare, potentially dangerous blood clots.
