NHBPA, State Horsemen s Groups File Suit To Halt HISA - Horse Racing News

Sponsored by: The National Horsemen s Benevolent and Protective Association, together with state affiliates in Arizona, Arkansas, Indiana, Illinois, Louisiana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington and West Virginia (Mountaineer) have filed a federal civil suit in an attempt to put the brakes on the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA). The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, names the Federal Trade Commission and several of its employees, as well as the people tasked with forming the Nominating Committee for the new federal authority. The suit seeks to have HISA and a number of its elements declared unconstitutional, to enjoin defendants from taking any action to implement HISA, as well as nominal damages of $1 and compensatory damages of any fees charged to horsemen by the new authority.

Amazon confirms placement of fulfillment center in Amarillo Officials with Amazon announced plans Thursday to open a new fulfillment center in Amarillo, creating more than 500 new full-time jobs for the area and having an approximate $35 million economic impact on the city when it is expected to open in early 2022. This comes after the Potter County Commissioners’ Court and the Amarillo City Council approved a tax abatement agreement from the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation among the county, city, Happy Horizons Properties, LP, ET Amarillo LLC and Amazon.com Services LLC.  According to previous Globe-News reports, the fulfillment center will be a new, 1 million-square-foot facility located on 110.39 acres at NE 24th Street and Loop 335. There will be $100 million in capital investment for the facility, with $70 million going toward the building itself and $30 million in equipment.

Get our free mobile app Texas Governor Greg Abbott has made a series of appointments to the Upper Colorado River Authority (UCRA) Board of Directors. Two of the moves announced on Thursday were reappointments, one was a new appointment, and a new chairman was named as well. Reese Braswell, of Bronte, and Erica Hall, of Abilene, were reappointed to the UCRA Board of Directors for terms ending on February 1, 2027. In addition, Leslie Lasater, of San Angelo, was appointed to her first term on the UCRA Board of Directors. Lasater s term will also end on February 1, 2027. Finally, Governor Abbott named Nancy Blackwell as the new chairman of the board, for the UCRA.
