With LIFT Center costs high, Abilene ISD talks construction financials

Expensive construction and costly changes made at the last minute have affected the Abilene Independent School District s 2018 bond construction program. Initially, voters approved a $138.7 million price tag. District officials at the time knew the actual cost would be higher and vowed to find alternative sources to pay for the difference. They ve attempted that, but financial statements and estimates indicate there s little wiggle room as work winds down on the most expensive projects. What s gone right? Where did costs skyrocket? There s a lot to unpack from the district s financial report provided during Monday s regular meeting of the district s school board. Red ink not yet dry

365 Days of Texas True Crime: Broomstick Killer P2

365 Days of Texas True Crime: Broomstick Killer P2 …. ….so here we are…it’s October 1989 and Kenneth “The Broomstick Killer” Allen McDuff has just been paroled.  He heads back to his hometown of Rosebud where the residents are out of their minds afraid of once again having to live with this bully of man and absolutely floored that he was released after what he did to those innocent teenagers. But he’s been in prison “reforming” since his arrest and conviction in 1966 right? Isn’t that what prison if for, punishment and reform?  Besides it’s not like he had done anything like this before or already had an escalating criminal history with a family history of disfunction and violence right? About that town in Rosebud….. (I like to tell some of a story and then go back, like movie directors these days seem to keep doing things, which I’m totally ok with)

TSTC student adds paramedic to family s list of first responders

Anthony Monaco has been around first responders his entire life. When Monaco lived in New York, his father was a volunteer firefighter, and his mother was a nurse. After his father’s job moved the family to Fort Worth, Monaco wanted to continue the family tradition. After high school, Monaco attended a firefighter academy and was hired by the Stephenville Fire Department. He said the department operates both the fire and emergency medical services operations for the community. Monaco completed an EMS program at his fellow firefighters’ suggestion and decided to take it one step further. He enrolled in Texas State Technical College’s Emergency Medical Services Paramedic program and now is nearing graduation.
