A McAllen teenager wrote a letter to Gov. Abbott urging him to help his mother who has been battling COVID-19.
Emilian Sosa, 14 , of McAllen said he and his mom were exposed to COVID-19 on Christmas Eve. He tested negative, but his mother tested positive.
After her diagnosis, her condition slowly deteriorated. Emilian Sosa began looking for other options to help and came across extracorporeal member oxygenation or ECMO a treatment used on COVID-19 patients that helps with cardiac and respiratory support to the heart and lungs. However, this treatment wasn t available in the Rio Grande Valley.
McAllen woman to receive life-saving COVID-19 therapy after her son writes to Gov. Abbott
The therapy is available in major Texas cities, like Dallas and Houston, but has not been available at the hospital in the Rio Grande Valley where the woman has spent the past few weeks fighting the virus.

A McAllen woman hospitalized with COVID-19 is set to receive a life-saving COVID-19 treatment after her son wrote a letter to Gov. Greg Abbott that went viral online.
A 14-year-old Rio Grande Valley student got the support of the governor himself when he made a desperate plea to help his mother, who is fighting for her life after being diagnosed with COVID-19 in late December.
