New car crawl aims to raise money for charity, bring people downtown as auto show is paused

The Motor City Car Crawl event will showcase new vehicles from metro Detroit area dealers throughout six downtown Detroit parks, including Campus Martius.
The Detroit Auto Dealers Association is teaming up with the Downtown Detroit Partnership to bring a new car-focused event to Detroit this summer.
The Detroit Auto Dealers Association and the Downtown Detroit Partnership are teaming up to host an all-new summer event: the Motor City Car Crawl, which will be held August 5 through August 8.

City Council on Tuesday sent a resolution to a committee for review. It urges the Detroit Auto Dealers Association to reconsider relocating the North American International Auto Show from the TCF Center in 2021 and continue its sustained presence in Detroit, by honoring the contract it signed in 2018 to hold the show in Cobo (now the TCF Center), each year through 2026.

The resolution must be approved by the Neighborhood and Community Services Committee before being voted on my the whole council. A resolution doesn t require any commitment from the DADA, which runs the auto show.

AUTO SHOW EYES SEPT. 2022 RETURN TO DETROIT
THE NEWS: The head of the North American International Auto Show is eyeing September 2022 for resurrecting a Detroit auto show that s been sidelined by the coronavirus pandemic after being moved from its traditional January date on the international circuit. Rod Alberts, executive director of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association and NAIAS, told the governing board of TCF Center last week that this year s show, originally planned for September, had to be canceled because of the financial risk of the virus upending another event like the June 2020 show that got canceled.
