Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter kicks off new year with free Dementia Super Saturday Series, education programs, support groups and more The Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter will offer a wide array of free virtual support groups, education programs and social engagement programs in January, including another Dementia Super Saturday Series installment on Saturday, Jan. 30. Alzheimer’s Association support groups, education programs and social engagement programs offer emotional and social support, provide much-needed information about memory loss and dementia, and help persons with dementia and their care partners find ways to remain socially active. “We’re pleased to offer support to the 190,000 Michiganders living with dementia and their 518,000 caregivers especially during the pandemic, which has caused even greater isolation and stress for those impacted by dementia,” said Jean Barnas, Alzheimer’s Association program

Craig Frost remembers that the late Alto Reed provided some key guidance when the keyboardist joined Bob Seger s Silver Bullet Band in 1977. Once Bob said, You re in the band now, Alto took me aside and said, OK, here s the do s and donâts of this band. Let me give you some advice. , Frost recalled after Reed died on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the age of 72 from colon cancer. We talked for an hour, maybe couple of hours. And it was all good advice. Silver Bullet fans might say there was no one better than saxophonist Reed who, along with bassist Chris Campbell, was longest-tenured member of the band to advise him. Or any of the nearly three dozen who have passed through the group s ranks since Seger formally christened it during 1974.

Reed was born in Detroit and was part of Bob Seger s Silver Bullet Band since its inception, playing on 14 albums. His saxophone provided a clarion call as part of hits such as Rock and Roll Never Forgets, Old Time Rock and Roll and, of course, Turn the Page. Raised in Detroit and later Saint Clair Shores, Reed began playing music at an early age, inspired by a school teacher.
