Austin s Long Center to host wine and music fest with Kaskade, Nelly

Austin 360 San Diego-based Blended Festival will bring a wine, food and music event to the Long Center lawn on September 10-11. Hosted by wine app and subscription service My Wine Society, the festival will be centered on a wine tent where guests will be able to sample  a vast selection of varietals from domestic and international wineries. There s also a robust music program with main stage performances from EDM artists Kaskade and 3Lau and rapper Nelly.

Virtual gig features Austin AAPI artists Mars Wright, Nagavalli, Adobo

Austin 360 On May 13, Tones, the monthly music series from the Austin Asian American Resource Center, will honor Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with a free streaming show featuring a diverse selection of standout Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) artists from Austin.  The show will includes artist talks and performances. Abstract R&B artist Mars Wright will appear with his adorable 7-year-old daughter, Olivia Sweet. Wright, aka Honey Son, played for several years with the artsy surf rock sextet Borrisokane. Last year, he put in a standout track on   A Home Unfamiliar, the brilliant visual album compiled by Mobley.   The show also will feature performances from Adobo, the new project from Nay Wilkins, lead singer of the expressive math rock band Hikes, and Nagavalli, a singer-songwriter who combines traditional Indian sounds with rustic American folk styles. 

Austin s Black Fret brings Keep Live Music Alive fest to Long Center

Austin 360 As the pandemic shut down venues across the city and around the world cutting off the primary source of income for most Austin musicians last year, local arts patronage nonprofit Black Fret went to work. Supplementing their annual grant program with a series of streaming events including their happy hour concert program, the organization ended up providing $750,000 in direct financial assistance to Austin artists in 2020.  As part of this year s membership drive, Black Fret is hosting the inaugural The Keep Live Music Alive festival, a three-day members only event on the Long Center Terrace from May 14-16. With the audience in socially distanced, seated pods, the festival will feature performances from 25 artists including Sam Houston, Nané, Eimaral Sol, Pat Byrne and recent Austin360 Artists of the Month, Geto Gala. Ley Line, Lisa Morales, Miggy Milla, Darkbird and Zach Person are also among the artists who will perform. 

Austin s Zach Scott to host Songs Under the Stars summer concerts

Austin 360 Zach Theatre will celebrate summer with an eight-weekend series of socially distanced outdoor concerts. The shows, programmed weekly on Thursday-Sunday, kick off June 10 with a two-week run of Rockabilly Kings, a revue of country rock jukebox classics like Ring of Fire and All Shook Up.   On the week of June 24, they will bring back the theater s fall series hit   70s Female Rockstars, followed by three weeks of Come Together: Beatles Redux, a show that recreates renditions of Beatles songs performed by souls greats like Aretha Franklin and Earth, Wind & Fire.  The series will close with a two-week  80s Dancy Party featuring your favorite neon bops from Madonna, Whitney, the Go-Go s and more. Eighties-style attire is encouraged. 

Bully, Big Freedia, Waxahatchee coming to Mohawk in Austin this fall

Austin 360 After sitting dark for over a year, celebrated Red River Cultural District club the Mohawk will reopen on May 27 with a limited capacity show from the Heartless Bastards. The event is part of grand opening celebration that will also include the club s annual cheese dip smackdown, the Quesoff, on May 29. The Mohawk will continue programming local and regional shows and operating at 50% capacity through June and July before bringing back full capacity shows in August. The club s calendar for late summer into fall includes a two-night stand from the Mountain Goats, performances from power pop trio Jukebox the Ghost and indie rock outfit Bully, two nights with Waxahatchee and an October get down with bounce queen Big Freedia.
