Northern Tier COVID Numbers Take Big Dip

Meridian looking to bring Pfizer vaccine to Suzanne Gresham Center

View Comments MUNCIE, Ind. Meridian Health Services is looking to bring the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to the Suzanne Gresham Center. Once the supply arrives, it will become the second local clinic to offer the Pfizer vaccine. Lisa Suttle, Meridian s regional vice president of clinical services, told The Star Press that the healthcare system has ordered the specialized refrigerator to hold the two-dose Pfizer vaccine, which was expected to arrive May 4. We will then begin working on getting the Pfizer vaccine, Suttle said.  We wanted to make sure we had the freezer and have all the guidelines in place to keep the Pfizer vaccine safe.

COVID-19 update: One third of Delaware County is now fully vaccinated

The FDA and CDC recently approved the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for continued use. The single-dose vaccine had previously been paused for review after receiving a handful of reports of rare but serious blood clots forming in women who had received the vaccine. At the time of the pause, more than 7 million Americans had received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and 6 women reported blood clots about .000086%. “We’re glad the FDA and CDC did a thorough evaluation of the vaccine and its side effects,” said Bryan Ayars, CEO of Open Door Health Services. “We will continue to offer the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine at neighborhood clinics, as well as the Moderna vaccine. We’ll let individuals make their own decisions as to which vaccine they prefer and will offer the CDC’s guidelines to help them with the decision.”
