The spread of COVID-19 has fallen across Indiana and East Central Indiana for several weeks. Last week, Jay and Madison counties were the first two in East Central Indiana to reach blue status for the spread of COVID-19, the lowest on the state s ranking. © stock image Covid-19 update The Indiana Department of Health assigns every county a color each week based on its weekly case total per 100,000 residents and positivity rate. So is it likely that Delaware County could see the same ranking this week? 

Muncie Delaware County weekly COVID-19 update, Feb 18

In the past week, Delaware County has reported 75 new cases of COVID-19 and six new deaths. This is the first time since August that the county’s number of new cases in a seven-day period has been under 100. The county’s positivity rate is at 6%; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest this number should be well under 5%. As of Feb. 17, IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital is treating 21 confirmed cases, nine of which are Delaware County residents. To date, nearly 6,500 individuals have been fully vaccinated through IU Health Ball Memorial’s COVID19 vaccination clinic. This total does not include individuals who may have received the vaccine at other vaccination sites throughout Delaware County, including Open Door Health Services, Meridian Health Services, the Health Department, Walmart (South), Pay Less (McGalliard and Tillotson) and Meijer.

Light snow and winds will mean drifting for many local country roads. Snowfall Monday and overnight has prompted local organizations and schools to announce Monday and Tuesday closings or rescheduling of events. Ball State University: Ball State will have no on-campus classes before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a release. Any on-campus class scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. or later will be held at the discretion of the instructor. Dining facilities, including Pittenger Student Center, will open as regularly scheduled. All essential employees should reporter to work as regularly scheduled. All non-faculty personnel presently assigned to work on campus should plan to report to work at 10 a.m.
