Crashes along I-95 in Wilmington, Delaware increase amid ongoing construction project

WILMINGTON, Delaware (WPVI) Crashes on a portion of Interstate 95 in Delaware have dramatically increased since the start of a construction project. Really, it s just getting people to drive safer through this corridor, C.R. McLeod with the Delaware Department of Transportation. The project is called Restore the Corridor Wilmington, and it is expected to last about two years. The project includes repairs to bridges, pavement work and ramp upgrades. However, since the project started in February, crews have noticed an increase in accidents. They say there have been over 40 incidents in just a month of work. So far, since February 19, more than half (of the crashes) have been attributed to following too closely and inattentive driving, said McLeod.

No ISOP for area s international students this summer

Rehoboth Beach  Delaware  19971United States Citing too many unknowns and ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19, the local International Student Outreach Program has announced it will not be operating this summer. However, the Delaware Department of Transportation is expected to at least try to operate the bike share program used by the students.  Newly appointed ISOP Co-chair Debbie Donovan said the decision to cancel the program this summer wasn’t easy, because these students do need the help, but as an all-volunteer group primarily made up of older people, the risks were too high. She said the organization had to make a decision, because typically this is the time of year when the program begins to prepare for the influx of student workers.

Community Briefs 3/10/21

March 10, 2021 Warrior Beach Week postponed to 2022 Operation Seas the Day announced that the 8th Warrior Beach Week will not be held in 2021. President Becky Johns said, “While this event continues to be important to Bethany Beach and surrounding areas, the impact of COVID-19 on the health and well-being of our guest families, volunteers and the community outweigh holding the 2021 event.” Warrior Beach Week provides military veterans and their families a week of rest and relaxation in the Bethany Beach area to enjoy the sun, sand and community recognition. Tremendous support for this event has changed lives and made it highly desirable for veterans and their families. Recognizing that warriors and their families still need help, organizers suggest supporters may redirect this year’s contributions to veteran organizations and/or those continuing to be adversely affected by the pandemic.
