New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will hold a meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday over the increasing COVID-19 cases in the national capital. The city registered the highest single-day spike of 17,282 fresh COVID-19 infections and 104 related deaths on Wednesday.
According to the latest state health bulletin on Wednesday evening, the total infection caseload of Delhi has reached 7,67,438 and 104 deaths in the last 24 hours took the overall COVID-19 death toll of the national capital to 11,540.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced a weekend curfew in the city to break the transmission chain of Covid-19. This will be in effect from 10 pm on Friday to 6 am on Monday.
The chief minister’s announcement came a day after Delhi reported 17,282 new coronavirus cases in the highest single-day rise since the pandemic broke out in January 2020. The test positivity, which is the percentage of people testing positive for Covid-19 out of the total tests conducted, jumped to 15.92%.
“Imposing these restrictions right now are very important and I hope everyone will cooperate with the government,” Kejriwal said after a meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and other top officials. “We will also be enhancing our enforcement drive to ensure people are maintaining social distancing and wearing masks.”
Le Meridien Hotel in Delhi has begun vaccinating its eligible staff from Sunday.

COVID-19 vaccination at public and private workplaces started across states and Union territories on Sunday, on the same day India launched its four-day long Tika Utsav or vaccination festival, aiming to inoculate maximum number of eligible people against coronavirus.
The government has recently allowed vaccination at workplaces having about 100 eligible beneficiaries.
As part of the drive, Delhi s Le Meridien hotel and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), among other locations in the city, have begun inoculating their eligible staff.
The hotel inoculated 140 of its staff members today. A total of 260 staff members will get inoculated as part of this initiative.
In Delhi, an all out mobilisation was the main thrust of the Tika Utsav and accordingly, a specially focused effort was made by officials. This has resulted in the national capital crossing the one lakh per day vaccination figure for the first time, the statement said.

Delhi on Tuesday reported 5,100 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the national Capital to 6,85,062. This is the first time since November 27 that the city registered more than 5,000 Covid-19 infections, reported India Today. Delhi had reported 5,482 cases on November 27.
The toll in the national Capital climbed to 11,113 after 17 people died because of the infection. The fatality rate was 1.62%. As many as 2,340 patients were recovered from the infection, taking the tally to 6,56,617. There are 17,332 active cases.
