Witnesses say they have seen several fire appliances attended the incident along with support vehicles.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed the have been called to the campus grounds after reports of a fire on the sixth floor of a building.
It is understood the firefighters are currently focusing their attentions on Francis Drake Hall which is situated in the middle of the campus.

A number of homes have been left without power after a cable was accidentally dug up in a garden in Weston Park Road.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was called to a house at 1.10pm today to reports of smoke coming from floorboards .
A fire spokesperson said that workmen at the home reported smoke and flames under the house after the cable was accidentally dug up in the front garden .
Dartmoor National Park gorse fire was started on purpose
Police closed the road between Dartmeet and Two Bridges while crews dealt with the incident

A major road has been closed in both directions as emergency services respond to an incident in Plymouth this afternoon.
It s understood fire crews, police officers and paramedics have all been called to Ferry Road in Devonport, after a vehicle allegedly collided with a tree.
Police have confirmed a male occupant of the car has a suspected hand injury and is being treated by paramedics.
