Boil water advisory for Dewey Avenue neighboring areas

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) The city of Kalamazoo has issued a boil water advisory as of Saturday morning for neighboring areas around Dewey Avenue. The advisory comes as the city is currently in the process of repairing the water system on Dewey Avenue.  The precautionary advisory was declared by the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department for all water intended for drinking and any other consumptive uses. The affected areas include: Portage Street – From Stockbridge Avenue (southern boundary) to Collins Street (northern boundary), both sides of the street.  Does not include the southeast corner of Washington Avenue and Portage Street.  Also on Portage from Collins Street (southern boundary) to Lake Street (northern boundary), east side of the street only.

By Terry Leahy May 7, 2021 Nebraska Medicine says construction crews will close Dewey Avenue Saturday morning, May 8th, from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for placement of a crane for a future expansion project at UNMC. The emergency room at 4350 Dewey Ave. will remain open and accessible via 44th Street during this time. The actual expansion project in the Nebraska Medicine Core Lab will be taking place later this month, when Dewey Avenue will again be blocked for a period of two days. Information about the rerouting of traffic for that project will be shared prior to that date.  

Rochester man pleads guilty in $12 5M Rochester Pawn & Gold scheme

View Comments Between 2015 and 2019, the owner and employees at Rochester Pawn & Gold sold more than $12 million in stolen items purchased from shoplifters, many of whom were addicted to opioids, federal officials claimed. The individuals were recruited to steal the items, officials said, adding that this type of fraud helped fuel the local opioid epidemic. In 2018 and 2019, 13 people who sold items to the pawn shop overdosed within five days. Three of the overdoses were fatal. Eric Finnefrock, 29, of Rochester, one of three men accused in the scheme, pleaded guilty on April 28 to one count of conspiracy to transport stolen goods in interstate commerce. Charges against store owner Thomas Nary and employee Ralph Swain are still pending.

Apr 28, 2021 EAST LIVERPOOL In East Liverpool Municipal Court, John Sullivan, of Vine Street, was sentenced to $225 plus costs and 180 days in jail on charges of violating a protection order (two counts), hit-skip and failure to maintain an assured clear distance. A review hearing is set Dec. 3. Brandon D. Savin, of Valley Avenue, was sentenced to $500 plus costs and 180 days in jail (30 days imposed) on violating a protection order and domestic violence. Michael A. Stover, of Thomas Road in Lisbon, is set for a motion hearing June 8 on charges of OVI and possession of marijuana. Brendon M. Carr, of Commerce Street in Wellsville, is sentenced to $575 plus costs and 30 days in jail (three days imposed) on charges of OVI, possession of marijuana and failure to control. His review hearing is set Aug. 6.

Theft under $500 was reported at 4:29 p.m. in the 400 block of North East Street. An intoxicated person was reported at 8:15 p.m. in the 600 block of Cole Street. A suspicious person was reported at 8:29 p.m. in the 800 block of Pleasant Street. Telephone harassment was reported at 10:36 p.m. in the 400 block of East Third Street A 20-year-old Kewanee man was arrested at 11:07 p.m. in the 700 block of Dewey Avenue for aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint and consumption of alcohol by a minor, and was taken to Henry County Jail.
