Southwest Airlines adds two beach and mountain destinations
Florida and Montana spots have become more popular during social distancing times.

Southwest Airlines added two new dots to its route map Tuesday in Florida and Montana, states increasingly popular during pandemic times.
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines will start flying to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport in the Florida Panhandle on May 6, giving access to the Florida Gulf Coast and nearby beach destinations Panama City and Pensacola.

“As the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation, GBAC STAR helps organizations establish protocols and procedures, offers expert-led training and assesses a facility’s readiness for biorisk situations,” officials said in the release. “The program verifies that the Destin–Fort Walton Beach Airport implements best practices to prepare for, respond to and recover from outbreaks and pandemics.”
In a statement, GBAC Executive Director Patricia Olinger said, “GBAC STAR accreditation empowers facility owners and managers to assure workers, customers and key stakeholders that they have proven systems in place to maintain clean and healthy environments. By taking this important step to pursue GBAC STAR, the Destin–Fort Walton Beach Airport has received third-party validation that it follows strict protocols for biorisk situations, thereby demonstrating its preparedness and commitment to operating safely.”
AVL adds nonstop flight to Destin-Fort Walton Beach
Nonstops flights from Asheville to Destin, Florida are starting May 27, Allegiant Air announced Feb. 9.
The route from Asheville Regional Airport to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport will operate twice weekly, with details at Allegiant.com.
This access to the Panhandle area of Florida rounds out the airport s nonstop access in Florida, where it already has six other direct flight routes, said Asheville Regional Airport spokeswoman Tina Kinsey. If you look at a map, you see dots from Asheville to Florida.all along the coastlines, but what has been missing is a dot in that panhandle location, she said. Now we will see that dot there.
