EVANSVILLE, Ind. A local judge has dismissed the criminal charges against an Evansville woman accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars in funeral payments from families. Instead, she has pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud charges.
Caroline Marie Rich, 39, pleaded guilty to wire fraud on May 13 in U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Indiana. On May 27, Vanderburgh County Circuit Court Judge David Kiely dismissed several counts of theft, forgery and counterfeiting.
Rich was arrested in September 2019 for allegedly stealing $18,000 from an Evansville couple whose child died in a hot car in July of the same year. She was later arrested again and accused of stealing approximately $20,000 from three other victims.
