Community members contribute to landscaping at Hesed House of Hope

The area around Hesed House of Hope in Lincolnton has gone from a tangled forest to a beautifully landscaped escape for those who use the services the shelter offers. Most recently, members of Unity Presbyterian Church in Denver and Denver United Methodist Church in Denver worked together to install 50 shrubs and six Dogwood trees at the base of the parking lot to prevent erosion. “I’m over at Hesed House at least once a month doing the meals and I hear about the volunteer opportunities,” Bill Muir, the coordinator for the Hesed House meals program at Unity said. “There’s a five-year improvement program, mostly improving the grounds and education for the residents. On that list was planting trees and erosion control and helping with The Trails of Hope Project which is similar to the Joshua Trail project that’s at the top of the property.”

Nashville police officers involved in wrong-apartment search face demotion

Lieutenant Harrison Dooley, Sergeant Jeff Brown and Officer Michael Richardson were decommissioned while the investigation into their actions during the warrant execution was ongoing.  Internal investigators this week recommended Dooley and Brown be demoted to officer status and Richardson be dismissed.  Officers used a battering ram to knock in the door at the Edgehill home of a mother and her two young children at 6:05 a.m. on Aug. 18.  The subject of the search warrant was a 16-year-old who did not live at the home and hadn t for at least four months.  Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake ordered an investigation into the event, calling the actions of the officers unacceptable and said shortcuts were taken when determining if the juvenile suspect lived at the home. No surveillance was done, he said.
