From birthday parties to weddings: Memories shared of Roll On America

Leominster Champion For people in and around Leominster, Roll On America in Lancaster was more than just a roller skating rink. It was a first job for young adults. It was where kids had their birthday party, or played arcade games, or took a spin around the rink and made new friends. Some people even met their significant others there. Monday, April 5 marked the final day of business for the northern Worcester County institution, which closed its doors forever after 42 years. The Leominster Champion asked our readers on Facebook to share their memories of Roll On America. And here are some of those responses:

Leominster man faces charges after drug raid on Mount Elam Road Leominster Champion A Leominster man is facing a variety of drug charges after police found cocaine, marijuana, drug-laced candy and more than $200,000 in cash during a raid. Matthew M. Heinecke, 41, of 1052 Mount Elam Road, Leominster, was charged Feb. 24 with trafficking in 36-100 grams of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, trafficking in 50-100 pounds of marijuana, possession of a Class D drug with intent to distribute, possession of a Class C drug with intent to distribute, and possession of a Class C drug. Heinecke will be back in Leominster District Court March 25 for a pretrial conference, according to Timothy Connolly, a spokesperson for Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.

Fitchburg Art Museum to reopen to the public March 26

Leominster Champion FITCHBURG The Fitchburg Art Museum will reopen to the public in two stages starting Friday, March 26, after being closed since December because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’ve missed you and look forward to seeing you in our galleries once again,” stated an announcement from the museum issued Tuesday. The museum will reopen in two phases. In the first phase beginning March 26, the museum will be open Fridays from noon to 4 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Discover Ancient Egypt exhibition will remain closed to the public. The museum will also be closed Easter Sunday, April 4.
