Sandbag thrower ends attempt at insanity plea as bits of glass remain in victim s eyes
A man has pleaded no contest in connection with an accident where a woman was injured after a sandbag was thrown from an overpass on I-96 crashing into her car.

PONTIAC (WXYZ) â Six months after the horrifying ordeal, Cynthia Eckley still has bits of glass in her eyes. When she feels one has reached the surface, it s a race to flush her eyes with water to get it out before it can scratch the surface. I had a major piece of glass come out in January, Eckley told 7 Action News Thursday. And that actually helped my vision a little bit because that s what was causing my double vision. I was looking through that shard of glass.

A plea has been entered by a Livingston County man charged with throwing a sandbag onto a womanâs car as she drove on I-96.
41-year-old David Vincent Garcia of Brighton was charged last year with three felony counts following an incident in Lyon Township; throwing objects at trains/cars causing serious impairment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and malicious destruction of personal property.
In Oakland County Circuit Court Thursday, a previous defense motion to pursue an insanity defense was withdrawn, and instead, Garcia entered a no-contest plea to the charges.

A trial has been ordered for a Livingston County man charged with throwing a sandbag onto a womanâs car as she drove on I-96, seriously injuring her.
41-year-old David Vincent Garcia of Brighton was in 52-1 District Court in Novi last week for an exam on a felony charge of throwing objects at trains/cars causing serious impairment. Testimony was provided by Cindy Eckley of Livonia, who related the eye injuries she suffered when a sandbag came crashing through the windshield of her car on October 4th as she drove westbound on I-96 underneath the Old Plank Road overpass.
