Harley-Davidsonis diving into what company executives are calling a “new genre” for the motorcycle maker with the launch of its Pan America model, a touring motorcycle built for on and off-road adventure.
Chairman, president and CEO Jochen Zeitz said Pan America is the first adventure touring bike designed and built in America. However,
a promotional video for the product launch draws a comparison between the new model and Harley bikes of the pre-World War II era.
“From its inception more than a century ago, when many roads were little more than dirt trails, Harley-Davidson has stood for adventure,” Zeitz said in a statement. “The Pan America models exude that go-anywhere spirit, shared today by riders in the U.S. and around the globe who want to experience the world on a motorcycle.”
2021 Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 and 1250 Special
After years of teasing, Harley-Davidson has finally taken the wraps off the Pan America, its first ever adventure bike,
The Pan America will be available in two adventure touring variants, the 1250 and 1250 Special.
Pan America 1250cc Revolution Max engine
Powering both variants is an all-new 150-hp Revolution Max 1250 engine. This new creation is a liquid-cooled 1,250cc V-Twin designed to offer a broad powerband.
The Revolution Max engine is integrated into the bike as the central member of the chassis. It forms part of a three-piece chassis construction, composed of the front frame, mid frame, and tail section which bolt directly to the powertrain.

Harley-Davidson Pan America Milwaukee Gear Announced, Here’s What’s on the Table 23 Feb 2021, 14:06 UTC ·

This week started with what may very well be Harley-Davidson’s biggest announcement of the year: the launch of the Pan America family of adventure bikes. As weapons to attack a whole new segment for the Milwaukee company, the two bikes come, of course, accompanied by a long list of customization choices. 16 photos
Together with the details on the Pan America, Harley also released info on what it has to offer as factory-supplied equipment for the two-wheelers. Everything is on the table, from luggage sets to windshields, highlighting the importance of the new moniker for the Americans.
Like most modern motorcycles, the Pan America has a riding mode for every season and reason. Sport mode maximizes throttle response and suspension control. Road mode softens the power in the mid-range and gives a softer ride. Rain dials both back again while Off-Road chops off the top end and softens the suspension even more. There’s even and I can’t believe there’ll be too many traditional Harley customers using this one an Off-Road Plus mode which disables both the rear ABS and the linked brakes so you can lock up the rear without washing out the front.
