HAMPTON ROADS, Va.- Right now, cybercriminals may be trying to hack your personal information as they ve done to the Colonial Pipeline which has caused major problems at the pumps.
Cybercriminals are the new wave of organized crime and use the internet to commit their crimes.
âThese are highly skilled hackers that are grouping together to make money,â said Gregg Tennefoss, a professor at Tidewater Community College and an expert in cybersecurity.
The cybercriminals are trying to make money by encrypting files on a victimâs computer or server, making them unusable, then demanding a ransom to fix the problem, according to the FBI.

The phrase has come up in multiple public addresses and finds its way into more off-the-cuff remarks as well. Folks, for too long we ve seen that trickle-down economics does not work, President Joe Biden said this month after visiting with students at Tidewater Community College in Virginia. My fellow Americans, trickle-down economics has never worked, and it s time to grow the economy from the bottom and the middle out, Biden said during his first public address to a joint session of Congress, which was viewed by millions on television.

NORFOLK, Va. - A free food pantry at Norfolk s MacArthur Center mall is expanding.
Last year, News 3 took you inside Community Feed, a partnership between Tidewater Community College, Towne Bank and The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. Originally, the service was only for TCC students, but now the food pantry is open to anyone. Shelves are stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables, proteins, non-perishable food and other household supplies.
Emma Inman, the Foodbank s vice president of programs and development, tells News 3 anchor Blaine Stewart the reason for the change.
Among the challenges faced in a coming-out-of-pandemic economy are a lack of workers trained in technology and in health care, an inability of many parents, particularly women, to rejoin the workforce because of child care, and the continuing and widening wealth gap polarizing opportunities for many in our communities.
Complex solutions are needed, and President Joe Biden says thereâs a place to start: Community colleges throughout the U.S.
Bidenâs $1.8 trillion American Families Plan proposal calls for two years of community college tuition-free and an expansion of Pell grants and other aid programs to help pay rent, food and child care while adults pursue college.
