NHPCO Announces Providers Successfully Completing Quality Connections Rings in First Quarter of 2021

Thirty-three hospice providers progress through NHPCO s innovative quality improvement program
(Alexandria, Va) - The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) is proud to share the organizations that have completed at least one ring in the first quarter of the Quality Connections (QC) program. QC a new program from NHPCO designed to enhance the knowledge base, skills, and competency of hospice and palliative care professionals and providers for continuous quality improvement. QC is structured around four fundamental pillars which are represented by four QC rings: Education, Application, Measurement, and Innovation.
The audit covered a random sample of 100 claims out of a total of 33,024 filed during the period of April 2016 through March 2018, in which Tidewell received $116.7 million in reimbursements for hospice services.
The Inspector General’s audit found that in 18 of those 100 claims, “Tidewell claimed Medicare reimbursement for hospice services for which the clinical records did not support the beneficiary’s terminal illness prognosis or the level of care claimed and for services that were not eligible for Medicare reimbursement.”
In a prepared statement, Tidewell President & CEO Jonathan Fleece said, “Tidewell Hospice is studying the OIG response, which was only just released very late on Wednesday, but I can say that we vehemently disagree with the audit criticisms and addressed each point in our response to the draft audit.
