China has been trying hard to repair its global image, tarnished by the spread of Covid-19, but its efforts are being undermined by some of its “wolf warriors.” The term used to refer to aggressive Chinese diplomats, but now nationalistic government social media accounts have also joined the ranks.
On Saturday (May 1), the official Weibo account of China’s Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission stirred a huge backlash after one of its posts attached a picture juxtaposing China’s successful launch of a module into space with one that shows India’s cremation pyres burning at night. “China lighting a fire versus India lighting a fire,” the post read.
Ministry warns against travel to India amid COVID-19 crisis

Taipei, May 4 (CNA) Taiwan s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Tuesday issued a red travel advisory for India, the highest level on its four-tier warning system, as that country s medical system continues to struggle under skyrocketing COVID-19 cases.
Cases in the South Asian country began to surge in March, with more than 19 million people in the country having contracted the disease to date, the ministry said in a press release.
In the past week, there have been over 350,000 new reported cases per day and the country is facing an acute shortage of hospital beds and oxygen, the ministry noted.
Taipei, May 2 (CNA) Starting Tuesday, travelers arriving from India will be quarantined at designated government facilities, free of cost, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Sunday, as COVID-19 infections continued to climb in the south Asian nation.

Washington, April 30 (CNA) The U.S. State Department has called for Taiwan to be allowed to participate in the upcoming World Health Assembly (WHA), citing Taiwan s successful efforts against COVID-19 and it assistance to other countries during the pandemic. Taiwan s outstanding control of COVID-19 and its donations of PPE demonstrate its strong contribution to global health, State Department spokesman Ned Price tweeted Friday. Taiwan has some of the world s leading experts in combating this disease, and we need to hear from Taiwan at the World Health Assembly, he added.
