The best way to avoid war across the Taiwan Straits is for the island s ruling Democratic Progressive Party to abandon its Taiwan independence stance, a mainland spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
The island s DPP authorities said recently that it is the Chinese mainland that is threatening Taiwan after The Economist described the island as the most dangerous place on Earth in its cover story on May 1.

A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday condemned Taiwan s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority for intentionally distorting the 1992 Consensus and attempting to cheat and mislead Taiwan compatriots.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, told a press conference that DPP s move harbors ulterior motives.
Zhu made the remarks in response to the DPP authority s recent claim that the 1992 Consensus is not in line with the public opinion in Taiwan and cannot solve the current issues across the Taiwan Strait.

TAIPEI, May 12 (Reuters) - Taiwan condemned China on Wednesday for seeking to use vaccines for political gain after Taipei s diplomatic ally Honduras said it was considering opening an office in China in a bid to acquire much needed COVID-19 shots.
Honduras does not have formal relations with China and is one of a group of Latin American nations that have formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan, which Beijing considers part of its territory.
Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez said that to buy Chinese vaccines, he would do as the Chinese had suggested and look for a diplomatic bridge.

A mainland spokesperson Tuesday slammed Taiwan s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority for its latest attempt to hype up the Taiwan independence narrative in the international community.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, pushed back against the DPP authority in response to a query on Tsai Ing-wen s remarks at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2021.
Swindling the international community under the guise of democracy has been the DPP authority s stock-in-trade, said Zhu, noting the nature of the move is to seek Taiwan independence.
