TRHA vaccination team to visit homes for the elderly

General manager, Primary Care, Tobago Regional Health Authority, Dr Roxanne Mitchell said the authority will soon begin vaccinating staff and residents at homes for the elderly throughout the island.
She said so on Friday at the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development’s virtual news briefing.
“We are in the process of pulling together a mobile team that will go out to homes for the aged as well as the shut-ins and begin the delivery of the vaccines to those persons,” Mitchell said.
“We will come to you in terms of the paperwork. We will come to you in terms of getting the number of persons.”

THA Assemblyman Farley Augustine is calling on all leaders throughout Trinidad and Tobago to use their influence to remind people about the absolute need to be very careful as covid19 infections soar.
At a virtual news conference on Thursday, Augustine said the covid19 situation is “nowhere where we hope we should be as a country.”
Last week, Health Secretary Tracy Davidson-Celestine said bed capacity for covid19 patients was at 65 per cent. On Friday, principal medical officer Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards outlined the gravity of the situation in Trinidad. She said the bed capacity at the Caura hospital was 98 per cent full, 75 per cent at Couva hospital, almost 100 per cent at Augustus Long hospital and 60 per cent at the Arima hospital.

In the last two days, the country has recorded 11 covid19 deaths pushing the toll from the virus to 185 one day after the Prime Minister announced a tightening of restrictions meant to reduce spread of the disease and, hopefully, prevent TT’s parallel health care system from being overwhelmed.
Six coronavirus deaths on Tuesday, fell short of the grim record of seven deaths in one 24-hour period set on September 11, last year.
56 active covid19 cases in Tobago

The THA Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development on Thursday announced four new covid19 cases in the last 24 hours in Tobago.
In a press release, the division said there was one discharge. There are now 56 active covid19 cases on the island.
It said the number of samples submitted to the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) and other local sites for testing is 4,454.
Overall, there have been 251 cases and two deaths.

The Ministry of Health has recorded six deaths and 235 new covid19 cases on Tuesday. The death toll now stands at 185.
There are now 2,689 active cases with 264 patients in the hospital and 2,155 in home quarantine.
In total the country has recorded 11,706 covid19 cases since its first case was announced on March 12, 2020.
In its 4 pm update, the ministry said 72 patients have been discharged, taking that total to 8,832.
There are 36 patients in step-down facilities waiting to be discharged and 227 people in state quarantine.
The country vaccinated 51,283 people. Of this, 196 people got their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
