When we first reviewed the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid back in 2018, it was the only game in town if you wanted a compact crossover hybrid. In 2021, the car has a lot more competition, particularly from the Honda CR-V, the traditional compact crossover segment leader that last year became available for the first time as a hybrid. Luckily for Toyota, the RAV4 saw a complete redesign in 2019, delivering more power, better fuel efficiency, a more attractive exterior, improved interior quality, and Apple CarPlay. 2020 brought the much-needed addition of Android Auto, which helped keep the RAV4 at the head of the pack and earn our Editors Choice award. Little has changed with the 2021 model save for a new XLE Premium trim level and the RAV4 remains our top pick in the segment.
The Toyota Prius XLE AWD-e is the only hybrid in its class that can give you more traction in winter weather, and the 2021 model adds a larger display, more features, and a longer hybrid battery warranty.

Toyota has launched a more stylish, safer facelifted Camry with a revised range that offers a hybrid powertrain in every grade, including the sporty Camry SX for the first time.
The new range reflects the ever-growing demand for Toyota’s petrol electric hybrid models that help deliver on its commitment to a sustainable future while offering customers lower running costs.
The 160kW 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain is now offered in the entry-level Ascent, Ascent Sport, SX sports model and top-of-the-range SL.
A 152kW 2.5-litre four-cylinder dynamic force petrol engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission will also be available on the Ascent.
Toyota Australia has officially launched the facelifted 2021 Camry range, which includes more hybrid options and a new, more powerful petrol option.
The new range spans from the Ascent, Ascent Sport, SX, and to the top SL. The top three feature flared side fins and a lower spoiler, providing some distinction over the base model, as well as a honeycomb front grille.
All models showcase fresh alloy wheel designs, with sizes ranging from 17 inches on the Ascent and Ascent Sport, 18-inch items on the SL, and 19s on the sporty SX. Buyers can then choose between eight exterior colours to complete the look.
