Novel hydrogel carriers for anti-cancer drugs offer new hope for cancer treatment

However, these bio-based drugs get easily degraded and therefore inactivated on administration into the body. Thus, effective delivery to and release of these drugs at target tumor sites are of paramount importance from the perspective of cancer therapy. Recently, scientists have discovered unique three-dimensional, water-containing polymers, called hydrogels, as effective drug delivery systems (DDSs). Drugs loaded into these hydrogels remain relatively stable owing to the network-like structure and organic tissue-like consistency of these DDSs. Besides, drug release from hydrogels can be c

New waste-to-hydrogen plant in Tokyo to convert wastewater sludge into H2 for vehicles and power generation

Waste-to-Hydrogen Tokyo Facility Ready to Rock – Is 2021 the Year of Hydrogen? : Biofuels Digest

Photo credit: TODA Corporation / Japan Blue Energy Co. Ltd. News comes from the Land of the Rising Sun that a first-of-its-kind Tokyo facility will convert sewage sludge into renewable hydrogen fuel is now complete. Ways2H Inc. and its shareholder and technical partner Japan Blue Energy Co. say the waste-to-hydrogen facility will process 1 ton of dried sewage sludge per day, to generate 40 to 50 kilograms of hydrogen per day, enough to fuel 10 passenger vehicles or 25 fuel-cell e-bikes. And in case you didn’t notice, this year’s Olympic torch left Fukushima a little over a week ago fueled with, yep, you guessed it – hydrogen!

UNIVAC I: World s first commercial computer unveiled 70 years ago [photos]

Today (31 March) marks 70 years since the world’s first commercial computer was unveiled. The Universal Automatic Computer I (UNIVAC I) was the absolute state of the art when it was unleashed on the world in 1951, even if some of its capabilities seem one step away from pen and paper compared to modern computers. However, the massive UNIVAC’s introduction on 31 March 1951 ushered in the future of commercial computing. Universal Automatic Computer I (UNIVAC I) – Fun facts Even though the UNIVAC’s power was relatively modest, it didn’t stop people from worrying about the dangers of machines that could one day take over their jobs.
