TIVERTON The former Essex Library, which became a short-term vacation rental property earlier this month, is in a residential zone where retail businesses are not allowed, according to the town solicitor who has been asked by the Town Council to research short-term rental ordinances in other towns that could be adopted in Tiverton.
While the historic refurbishment of Essex, built in 1938, was “very well done,” Councilwoman Donna Cook said she has heard complaints about it becoming a rental property, along with another short-term rental in the Seapowet area where weddings and receptions have been hosted.

BEDFORD â A Moneta woman will serve just under three years behind bars after being sentenced Friday in connection with an August 2019 DUI crash that killed a man.
Brandi Michelle Credille, 36, pleaded no contest in September 2020 to charges of involuntary manslaughter, felony child neglect and misdemeanor driving under the influence.
Credille was driving north on Moneta Road, near the Moneta Post Office, in the late morning of Aug. 8, 2019, when her vehicle swerved across the center lane and hit William Lee Keeneyâs truck as he was headed south, Bedford Commonwealthâs Attorney Wes Nance said at the September hearing. Keeney died of blunt force injuries to the torso at the scene of the crash.
