Plan submitted for eight-foot whale sculptures on Prestatyn promenade

SCULPTURES of diving whales with tails spanning eight foot have been proposed for the Prestatyn promenade. Plans for six of the contemporary sculptures costing a total of £32,400 have been submitted this week in an application by the Prestatyn Business Forum (PBF) as an eye-catching feature that would encourage beachgoers to recycle. Designed by South African environmentalist Jacha Potgieter, the 2.4-metre steel works of art would illustrate various stages of whale diving from the Beaches Hotel to the Ffrith. The proposal will be reviewed by Denbighshire County Council planners in January. PBF secretary Sally Smart said the installation would be “a sight to behold” as well as a timely addition to the seafront after David Attenborough’s Blue Planet 2 series raised awareness of plastic pollution.
