KLCI gains 0 81% as index-linked glove makers rise on increasing Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 20): The main index at Bursa Malaysia rose 0.81% at the midday break Wednesday as renewed buying interest in index-linked glove makers lifted the index after the whole of Malaysia, with the exception of Sarawak, was placed under the movement control order (MCO) from Jan 22 to Feb 4. At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI rose 12.98 points to 1,614.86. Gainers led losers by 390 to 324, while 736 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 3.08 billion shares valued at RM2.09 billion. The gainers included Public Bank Bhd, JF Technology Bhd, Unisem (M) Bhd, Mi Technovation Bhd, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, Top Glove Corp Bhd, Hartalega Holdings Bhd and Supermax Corp Bhd.

KLCI makes less-than-convincing gains as pandemic weighs on sentiment

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 19): The main index of Bursa Malaysia made less-than-convincing gains in the mid-morning today as the government’s RM15 billion Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia (PERMAI) assistance package did not seem to boost sentiment, which appeared to be more influenced by the coronavirus pandemic. At 10am, the FBM KLCI had gained 4.92 points to 1,614.44. Losers led gainers by 416 to 404, while 420 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 1.75 billion shares valued at RM1.03 billion. The gainers included Milux Corp Bhd, Toyo Ventures Holdings Bhd, PMB Technology Bhd, Cymao Holdings Bhd, Far East Corp Bhd and Khind Holdings Bhd. The actively traded stocks included Vsolar Group Bhd, ARB Bhd, KTG Bhd, PNE PCB Bhd, JAKS Resources Bhd, i-Stone Group Bhd, Samaiden Group Bhd and Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX).

KLCI pares gains as investors lukewarm to Permai package

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 19): The main index at Bursa Malaysia pared some of its gains at the midday break Tuesday as broader market sentiment appeared lukewarm to the government’s RM15 billion Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia (Permai) assistance package. At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI was up 2.78 points to 1,612.30. The index had earlier climbed to a high of 1,618.41. Declining issuers led advancers by 370 to 365, while 728 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 4.16 billion shares valued at RM2.50 billion. The gainers included Nestle (M) Bhd, Toyo Ventures Holdings Bhd, Milux Corp Bhd, PMB Technology Bhd, Khind Bhd, Samaiden Group Bhd and Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd.

KLCI opens higher as banks lift

At 9.05am, the FBM KLCI rose 5.42 points to 1,642.11. The early gainers included Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, Public Bank, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd, UWC Bhd, Asia File Corp Bhd, Hong Leong Bank Bhd, ViTrox Corp Bhd, Toyo Ventures Holdings Bhd and Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd. Bloomberg said Treasury yields retained their recent declines amid optimism the American economy will continue to benefit from government support. Asian shares opened with small losses, it said. Rakuten Trade said Wall Street were mixed amid recent record run as traders remain sidelined. It said the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed flat at 30,060 with the tech heavy Nasdaq closed 56 points higher at almost the 13,130 mark.
