AN ONLINE petition against a huge 4,000 home development proposed on green field land north of Dorchester has been launched by an MP. MP for West Dorset, Chris Loder, has launched the online petition which urges residents to voice their opposition to the Norchester North of Dorchester development, which has also been met by fierce opposition from locals and a campaign group, STAND (Save the Area North of Dorchester.) Mr Loder said: “This proposal will be devastating for the beauty and functionality of our county town. We need to modest development to thrive, but this proposal offers little back to the community.”
THE threat to the countryside by a controversial housing development was highlighted by a campaigner who said he couldn t remain silent . Dorchester councillor and 10-time national town crier champion Alistair Chisholm was interviewed on national television about the upcoming British Town Crier Championships which will be held in silence this year for the first time in the competition s history. Due to Covid-19, it is not possible to have a proper competition because of the possibility of transmitting the virus when crying in public. Instead, the country s traditional news-bearers will be judged on the quality of their written cries alone through a 140-word reading, with the subject this year being nature and the environment .

DORSET residents only have a few days left to have their say on Dorset Council Local Plan. The plan is a draft Local Plan containing proposals for guiding future development in the Dorset Council area. The consultation for this plan ends on March 15 and the plan, once adopted, will guide decisions on planning applications in Dorset until 2038. Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for planning, Cllr David Walsh said: I am very pleased and encouraged by the number of people engaging and commenting on the Dorset Council Local Plan. If you haven’t responded yet, there is still time. Even though we are consulting during a pandemic, our statistics are showing a huge increase in the numbers engaging in the local plan process compared to previous consultations. We have also had input from all ages and from all parts of the county.
