Ceiling of family home in Dorset collapses due to water leak

A FAMILY’s ceiling completely collapsed from water damage after they had been complaining about a leak in their upstairs bathroom for more than three years. Wendy and Martin Ritchie had been complaining about a leak in their bathroom to their housing association since they first moved into their home at Crookhays, in Shaftesbury over three years ago. Mr and Mrs Ritchie are currently tenants with Sovereign Housing and have three children, aged 11, 14 and 17 who are all vulnerable and have found the situation very distressing as they were left without washing facilities. The couple said that they believed that the leak from the upstairs toilet, which was leaking into their downstairs bathroom directly below, had been a problem before they moved in for the previous tenant at the property.

Dorset Council receive £650k grant for domestic abuse support

The grant will fund a new duty providing support for victims and their children, including safe accommodation. This is part of the government’s forthcoming Domestic Abuse Bill. Chairman of the council’s People and Health Overview Committee, Cllr Andrew Kerby, welcomes the news. He said: Domestic abuse is unacceptable, and we are committed to preventing it, supporting victims and prosecuting offenders. This money, and the Domestic Abuse Bill, will strengthen our response, providing adults and children with the right support. The council has also enforced the fact that Dorset residents experiencing domestic abuse can still receive confidential advice and support amid the pandemic.
