A FAMILY’s ceiling completely collapsed from water damage after they had been complaining about a leak in their upstairs bathroom for more than three years. Wendy and Martin Ritchie had been complaining about a leak in their bathroom to their housing association since they first moved into their home at Crookhays, in Shaftesbury over three years ago. Mr and Mrs Ritchie are currently tenants with Sovereign Housing and have three children, aged 11, 14 and 17 who are all vulnerable and have found the situation very distressing as they were left without washing facilities. The couple said that they believed that the leak from the upstairs toilet, which was leaking into their downstairs bathroom directly below, had been a problem before they moved in for the previous tenant at the property.
BCP AND Dorset Councils have collaborated with the newly appointed head of safeguarding across both council areas to highlight the importance of the role. Following Safeguarding Week, which ran from June 21 to June 25, both local authorities are working with Siân Walker, Joint Independent Chair of the Dorset Safeguarding Adults Board and the Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole Safeguarding Adult Boards, to promote measures to protect the health, wellbeing and human rights. Siân Walker said: “Safeguarding adults with care and support needs is fundamental to everything we do – it is everyone’s business. “It is the most important role we have both in the public and the voluntary sector and having the opportunity to lead and oversee continuously improving practice in the two local authorities is a great opportunity.

A35 Chideock speed limit set to stay after Highways England air quality trial
Highways England is taking active measures to improve air quality in the Dorset village of Chideock.

With responsibility for maintaining and improving England’s motorways and major A roads, Highways England recently installed an electric vehicle charging point in the village.
And now a 30mph speed restriction is set to be made permanent following the outcome of an air quality trial carried out on a section of the A35.
Since 2015, Highways England has been investigating effective measures to improve air quality on and alongside the strategic road network and has developed a programme of measures to improve air quality at specific locations around the country, including traffic management and managing speeds to reduce emissions.
